Without a good story, gold would be worthless.

Even bad ideas will beat out good ideas if the bad idea is teamed up with a better story.

This skill, communication, transferring knowledge and passion through the vehicle of story, that’s what God put me here to do. And I want to help people like you, take the great stories they write, and learn to perform them live on stage so that you connect with your audience more thoroughly.

Over 11+ years I’ve been producing Live Lit shows in Chicago as President of the non profit, Story Luck. This group was started by best friends and when the pandemic hit we stuck together. Our organization shifted from public shows in a theater to running a live storytelling workshop on Twitch.

The Workshop Workshop Show upended everything I hated about storytelling circles.

That show had a super double plus positive reception from guests like Sean Wellington of Grit Storytelling, Comedian Heidi Grandberry, and Writer Tim Barnes. All our guests had breakthrough after transformative breakthrough delving into the storytelling process. However, it was too academic to connect with a large audience. (Certainly didn’t fit the Gamer Style of Twitch.)

Still, I’d fallen in love with teaching the 5L1K method Story Luck had developed over the course of running that show. We don’t tell you what’s good or bad. Rather, we help you uncover the meanings to your stories. Then ask the hard question, how do you want to present that to an audience? What’s the best way forward for you? We guide you through the hardest part of writing. Finding your edge. We create a safe place to make bad art. Because the only way you get better is by trying new things! You’ve got to stick your finger into a few light sockets before you become an expert storyteller. So we listen with delight, validating what you went through, and celebrate trial and error in our cohort based classes.

Story Luck binned old frameworks, and got back to personalized storytelling. So when the world opened up, I decided to stay online to test my theories out further. Refined my teaching methods and keep learning from other masters of the craft.

In 2022 I did 1000 free 1-on-1 personal coaching calls.

All these years I have been taking notes and writing essays about my work. Sharing them on the social platform now known as X and in my FB feed in rough draft form.

For the rest of 2023, I’ll be picking out the best performing essays and editing those brain droppings till they’re ready to be shared with you here on Medium.

By following and reading my Medium, I will inspire you to grow as a writer and Live Lit Storyteller/Producer.

I want you to write more stories, with a honed voice that’s unique to you, one you understand. AND I want you to share those stories live to an audience.

While I offer writing tips with familiar, snappy Medium pacing and tone, I am also posting bold creative stories from my unique voice. The vast majority of writing guru’s aren’t even trying to put their creative wisdom into practice. They have the Ra-Ra theory and the copywriting style down. But their stories don’t sing.

You will see me putting the writing and storytelling techniques I teach into my creative non-fiction. Struggling to tame those stories, accepting feedback. And then articulating what I learned in the process.

  • I am a good short story writer. (With your help and comments, I’ll become one of the best!)
  • I am a Master Live Lit Storyteller. (With my help, I’ll show you the power of reading your work aloud to a live audience!)
  • Above all, I am a best friend. (Facts.)

If Medium isn’t your main platform, find me @StoryLuck on all social media. My DMs are open and I’ve always got slots in my calendar to help you connect to your story.
