There's room for all comments and commenters. But I recently had a discussion with a client where he was like, "I'm on twitch and I sit in other people's channels and give back to their communities. I chat, I provide value, and no one comes to my channel."

One thing to ask, "Do you actually see people growing this way?"

Posting great essays scales. Marketing Scales. Leaving comments doesn't. So if you're going to do this, foot soldier style of growing an audience, you might as well go with quality over volume. Because you won't drive MUCH traffic either way. So if you're doing the work, aim for true connections.
