Glad this popped in my feed and I read the whole thing.

The title threw me off because it's so focused on the people you hosted and it seems like... Most of them would like your social media presence.

I love the take away that when push comes to shove our divisions aren't as strong as we think. It's easy to be cantankerous online and spout, I'm unfriending you! But when you need a place to stay or help with a project, suddenly common goals and common good bring us together.

I also appreciate the scare quotes around traditional.

Are antiquated and biggotted views traditional?

Would we call an outhouse traditional?

Traditional values are kindness and generosity. Timeless and appropriate. Not gender roles and homophobia.
